About us

Schweizerbart Science Publishers was founded by Emanuel Schweizerbart in 1826 as a publishing house with an emphasis on historical works. Shortly after its foundation, the program changed and Schweizerbart concentrated on publishing scholarly journals and books in the sciences, mainly Earth and environmental sciences, aquatic ecology, anthropology, medicine, zoology and plant science. Today, Schweizerbart publishes many scholarly journals, periodicals, series, books and monographs in the Earth and environmental Sciences, aquatic ecology, botany, anthropology and zoology.

Gebr. Borntraeger publishers were founded by J. Nicolovius in Königsberg, Prussia in 1790. It has an active program in the Earth and environmental sciences. Later headquartered in Berlin, Gebr. Borntraeger became an affiliate company of E. Schweizerbart in 1968, moving its operation to Stuttgart.

Fairyfly genus Camptoptera Foerster in India and Sri Lanka, with descriptions of eleven new species

Volume 165 of Zoologica is a comprehensive study of the fairyfly genus Camptoptera Foerster in India and Sri Lanka. The species of Camptoptera are among the smallest known insects. Their taxonomy is mostly based on the mesosomal sculpture, which makes cleared slide mounts necessary for their correct identification. The authors of this volume present a rather simple and better slide mounting technique especially for the smaller chalcids to make the mounted specimens clearer and more visible. Based on a large collection of specimens from all over India and types of previously described taxa, a total of 26 different morphospecies were found to be present in both the countries out of which 11 species are described as new.

Bentonites - Characterization, Geology, Mineralogy, Analysis, Mining, Processing and Uses

This publication introduces (data) and discusses a set of 40 bentonite/clay samples from all over the world. It includes compositional and mineralogical data for these samples, making it a valuable reference on bentonite clays worldwide.
Finally, the expert authors provide information on the wide range of bentonite applications in various fields, which has rarely been compiled in a single volume before.

Rocks Description, identification, nomenclature, genesis

he first part of this book presents an overview of the world of rocks and their setting in Earth. The genesis of magmatic, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks is described in terms of modern concepts of plate tectonics. The most important characteristics of the rock-forming minerals necessary for identification and characterization, as well as the classification procedures recommended by the International Union of Geosciences, are summarized. The structure and fabric of rocks, i.e., the way in which the component mineral grains are assembled, are documented and dealt with as a direct consequence of those specific and distinct processes that create the contrasting groups of magmatic, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. The second and major part of this book presents ca. 450 different types of rocks in structured, systematic order. Representative, detailed and diagnostic photographs of hand specimens are combined with concise descriptions for quick and effective reference. This English edition builds on the 2024 German volume but had to cope with the difficulties of using and defining terms like fabric, texture and structure for an international readership. Texture, in particular, has been used with completely different meanings in different languages and disciplines. This book complies with the recommendations of the International Union of Geosciences. This book addresses students and professional as well as-non-professional geoscientists, both as an initial introduction to the world of rocks and as a quick diagnostic reference guide in the field and laboratory.
