In cooperation with
German Publishers & Booksellers Association
The German Publishers & Booksellers Association (Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels) is the umbrella organisation for the German book industry. We represent the interests of 4,000 bookshops, publishers, booksellers and other media companies to politicians and the public. The association was founded in Leipzig in 1825 and is now based in Frankfurt am Main.
The German Publishers & Booksellers Association is an economic and cultural association: as a professional association, we are committed to creating the best possible economic and political conditions for our members. At the heart of our work is our commitment to maintaining fixed book prices and fair copyright laws. With initiatives in politics, education and science, we are committed to the book as a leading medium in society.
As a cultural association, we are committed to the book as a cultural asset, to the freedom of the word and to the cultural diversity of society. We organise the Frankfurt Book Fair and annually award the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, the German Book Prize and the German Non-Fiction Prize. We are also committed to promoting reading: since 1959, the Börsenverein has organised the German Book Retailers' Reading Competition, in which around 600,000 children take part every year.
